Daily Report - Thursday 18 Jan ‘07

January 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Winter is here but the snow is yet to arrive. The hill is covered in most spots but all and all it’s really thin. The cold temps have keep the snow from melting to much and the snow makers have been firing the guns which is keeping the groomers in good shape. Its going to be another Bluebird day with cold temps and is going to feel colder than normal due to a persistent east wind. This east wind will also prevent you from hitting ludicrous speed when coming down the upper groomers, most notable Siberia.
With the marginal skiing its a great time to head into the parks and try some new tricks out. Belmont Park is open with a number of small rails, boxes, hits and a small steep up to a platform. Riviera Half Pipe is open but its kinda a joke. Mainline Terrain Park has the most going with two offsetting Quarter Pipes(which walls are not vertical?) and one good size hit that has been hard to jump due to the strong east wind.
See You on the Hill

Update - 3:00 - Got on KT at noon, skied the saddle which was firm and bumped up pretty good. Not a place you want to be with boot pain. Something my buddy found out on the first run. Then skied off Headwall with the same results. Siberia Express was OK but very windy. Gold Cost was as it always is, but Shirley Lake Express was the surprise of the day. Runs 1 through 5 at groomed and a lot of fun (fast with grip to the snow). The best runs of the day were off Granite Chief in Cork Screw and Break It Out. The winds have been blowing snow up into these parts over the pass few days making for some nice little wind pockets. There is still no one on the hill so you have plenty of run to let the skis run.
